Nursing Home Earms 5-Star Rating

Mt. Ascutney Hospital’s Skilled Nursing Facility has earned a 5-Star Rating from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).
In Vermont, only 7 out of 40 nursing homes received the top mark. In New Hampshire, 19 out of 80 homes received the top rating. The 5-star score puts Mt. Ascutney Hospital’s nursing facility in the top 10 percent nationwide.
The score was achieved “through the consistent and responsive care provided by our staff on a daily basis,’’ said Ed Swiderski, SNF Administrator.
The nationwide assessment looked at quality measures, health inspections and nursing home staffing. Swiderski said the staff at Mt. Ascutney Hospital deserves thanks “for all that they do each day.”
By releasing this ranking process and data, the CMS said it “offers a valuable improvement to the information available to consumers.” Searchable ratings can be found at www.medicare.gov. The CMS plans to update the ratings quarterly.
Nationally, nearly 16,000 nursing homes were rated. Acting Medicare Administrator Kerry Weems said she hoped the rankings would prompt “a national conversation about nursing home quality.”
Mt. Ascutney Hospital’s Nursing Home dates back to 1972, when the hospital relocated to County Road.
