Would you believe that baking soda and water dissolve ear wax? In fact, some experts say that it is the best approach.
Baking soda seems to work faster than hydrogen peroxide or Debrox, and it is more effective than mineral oil or Cerumenex. These oily solvents soften the wax, but they do not break it up or help it dissolve.
Want to try it?
- Dissolve ½ teaspoon of baking soda in 2 ounces of warm water and put it in a dropper bottle.
- Put a few drops in the ear twice a day for up to 1 week.
- Discard any solution that is left after a week
Do not try this if the patient has had a perforated eardrum or are prone to ear infections.
