The Centers for Medicare Medicaid Services (CMS) have created the Nursing Home Quality Initiative (NHQI), a program designed to provide consumers with detailed information and quality measures on the nations Medicare and Medicaid-certified nursing homes.

Because we strongly believe that the public should have access to meaningful, valid and comparable data, our ultimate goal is to inform consumers so they can be more involved in their health care decision-making.

The NHQI data release is an important step in the right direction, but should be viewed as a work in progress.

We use an additional tool of regular patient satisfaction surveys to measure our care quality at Mt. Ascutney Hospitals Nursing Home Facility. Our evaluation process is provided by Press Ganey Associates Inc., South Bend, IN, a national healthcare industry vendor that measures patient and family satisfaction.
