Mt. Ascutney Hospital offers a complete Cardiac Rehabilitation program, which is designed to improve the physical fitness and reduce the risk of progressive heart disease in patients who have experienced a heart attack, cardiac surgery, angina, or other heart diseases. All patients require physician referral for any of our Cardiac Rehab and wellness programs.
What is Heart Disease?
Heart disease is the number one killer of both men and women in the United States. Research has shown that consistent, moderate exercise is beneficial to the heart. Exercise improves a person’s well-being and helps in the recovery of heart problems.
Our Cardiac Rehab team consists of a physician, a cardiac rehabilitation nurse, and a registered physical therapist. The team works with the patient to develop and implement exercise plans to suit his or her individual conditions and needs.
Cardiac Wellness Center
The Cardiac Wellness Program offers stress testing, exercise, and physical conditioning for patients who have cardiac disease, but have not had a heart attack or recent surgery. The program teaches patients how to change their lifestyle in order to help their particular heart conditions. Consultations with a registered dietitian on changing diet, and a registered nurse for sessions on stress reduction, are likely to be part of a patient's Cardiac Rehabilitation
