The Lay Ministry Program
We believe that meeting the spiritual needs of patients is an important part of their healing process. We can meet these needs through the presence of well-trained and sensitive volunteers who provide pastoral care. The program, under the direction of interfaith chaplain The Rev. Diane Root, helps patients find their own strengths and resources in a spiritual and emotional way. The lay ministry program recruits, screens, trains, and supports volunteer chaplains. These volunteer chaplains provide a listening ear, and give comfort in a nondenominational nature to hospital patients experiencing distress or requesting spiritual support. For more information and requirement details about the volunteering for the Lay Ministry Program, please call Volunteers In Action at (802) 674-5971.
The Rev. Diane E. Root, the hospital chaplain, is available on Mondays for patients, hospital visitors and staff. The hospital chapel is open 24 hours a day. A prayer group meets Monday-Friday, 7:45 a.m. in the chapel. Everyone is welcome and prayer requests may be entered in the chapel book
