A Physiatrist is a doctor who specializes in rehabilitation and oversees the rehabilitation aspects of your care.
An Internist is a doctor who specializes in internal medicine and closely supervises your medical care.
A Case Manager works with the patient, family and team to develop and coordinate a comprehensive discharge plan. This includes helping the patient and family cope with emotional, social, financial, vocational and educational needs associated with the disability.
A Nurse helps the patient regain optimal functioning, works to prevent further complications of physical disability and helps educate the patient and family. Most of our nurses in the Rehabilitation Unit have specialized education in rehabilitation and work as part of the team.
A Speech Language Pathologist works with the patient if they have difficulty speaking, processing thoughts, remembering, or swallowing.
An Occupational Therapist or Occupational Therapy Assistant works with the patient on everyday tasks such as bathing, dressing, grooming, household management activities as well as cognitive tasks such as reading, writing and handling money.
A Physical Therapist or Physical Therapy Assistant works with the patient to improve all types of mobility, strength, coordination, balance and endurance.
In order to provide a greater level of independence to the patient, the physical and occupational therapists may introduce and instruct the patient in the use of equipment such as: wheelchairs, walkers, canes, splints, and bathing or dressing aids.
A Therapeutic Recreation Specialist works with the patient to assess their leisure interests and helps them return to those interests within the limits of their disability.
A Registered Dietitian provides the patient with a nutrition assessment and care plan as well as nutrition counseling for the patient and their family.
A Neuropsychologist evaluates cognitive and emotional issues related to the rehabilitation process, provides consultation to the staff, and meets with family members for additional education as needed.
