Therapeutic Massage

Massage Therapy can help relieve stress and pain, reduce blood pressure and boost the immune system. Recent research shows that massage provides relief for chronic low back pain, and eases pain and muscle spasms following bypass surgery. Regular massage can be energizing, relaxing, and help to improve everyday function of mind, body, and spirit.

Types of massage offered at the Healing Arts Clinic at Mt. Ascutney Hospital and Health Center:

  • Swedish massage: The most common type of massage, to relax and energize you.
  • Chair massage: Massage of the upper body, while fully clothed and seated in a special chair.
  • Deep Tissue Massage: For muscle damage from an injury, such as whiplash or back strain.
  • Sports massage: To help prevent athletic injury, keep the body flexible and heal the body should injury occur.
  • Myofascial Release: Fascia is a layer of soft tissue that surrounds and envelopes every cell of our bodies. In accessing this layer, Myofascial Release helps to reorganize tissue to alleviate points of tension throughout the body. It is an intense method particularly effective for recovery from injury, trauma, or chronic pain.
  • Therapeutic Massage: Involves the manipulation of muscles and joints to increase circulation, relieve tightness, and spasm. Massage encourages relaxation by bringing pain relief and reducing stress.
  • Positional Release Techniques: Gentle manual treatments for muscle pain and spasm which involve resetting muscle tone and enhancing circulation.
  • Herbal Bodywraps: Treatment where a client is given a massage with special detoxifying herbs and oils and wrapped in blankets for at least 20 minutes while they are given energy work. This relaxes and helps to detoxify the body.
