Welcome from Richard Slusky, CEO

Welcome to Mt. Ascutney Hospital and Health Center. We are a progressive community hospital located in Windsor, Vermont, the birthplace of Vermont, in the beautiful Connecticut River Valley. Windsor has access to many of Vermont's finest ski areas, and is within a half hour of Woodstock, VT, and Hanover, NH, the home of Dartmouth College.

Mt. Ascutney Hospital and Health Center is a very special place with a focus on high quality medical care and a commitment to personal attention to our patients and their families. We are progressive in our thinking; continually moving forward, and always striving to meet the changing and growing healthcare needs of the people in the communities we serve.

Our Inpatient units are comprised of 23 Acute (medical/surgical) and swing beds, a 10-bed Rehabilitation Unit, and an award winning Nursing Home. At the present time, we are in the process of downsizing our nursing home from 50 to 25 beds so that we can provide private rooms for patients throughout the facility.

On our Windsor campus, we have an active Outpatient clinic featuring 15 primary care providers as well as specialists available in more than 20 fields. Our Woodstock location, the Ottauquechee Health Center, offers primary care and various specialties. All of our physicians are Board Certified or Board Qualified in their field.

We also have a 24-hour Emergency Department, honored in 2007 as the Vermont EMS Hospital of the Year. We are certified as a Critical Access Hospital and we are a member of The Dartmouth-Hitchcock Alliance, a regional network of nonprofit healthcare providers in Vermont, New Hampshire and Massachusetts.

Over the past 20 years, Mt. Ascutney Hospital has developed highly regarded programs in rehabilitation medicine. In 1999 we added the Miller Therapeutic Pool, a 17 x 36 ft. warm water therapy pool; the only one of its kind in the State of Vermont.

Mt. Ascutney Hospital has also been recognized as a leader in community health education, working with numerous social services agencies and helping to provide dozens of health education and prevention programs to people in our region. In recognition of our efforts, we were recognized in 2003 by the American Hospital Association as a finalist for the prestigious Foster G. McGaw Award.

Our work with the elderly is community-based as well. In conjunction with the Stoughton House Corporation (a Level 3 Residential Facility), we received nearly $1,000,000 in grants and loans to purchase and renovate three historic mansions in Windsor, which have been developed as community residences for the elderly. These residential sites, known as Historic Homes of Runnemede, offer independent and assisted living opportunities and supplement the continuum of care we can offer our patients. These homes also contribute to the restoration and growth of our downtown area. We are very proud to be a part of this significant and historic project.

We also encourage the growth of both inpatient and outpatient Complementary/Alternative medicine programs.Outpatient programs include: Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine, Polarity Therapy, Naturopathic Medicine, Jin Shin Jyutsu, Reiki, Healing Touch, and Therapeutic Massage. Inpatients can receive many of these programs, based upon referral by their physician. We believe that alternative medicine can and should complement our more traditional approaches to treatment.

We hope you enjoy learning more about our hospital and I encourage you to write to us if you have a question, suggestion or concern. We are always glad to hear from our community. Thank you for taking the time to visit with us. I wish you good health.

Sincerely,
Richard Slusky
