What is your title and unit/department?
I'm a staff RN, CRRN, SCRN with a specialty in Rehab Nursing at the Inpatient Acute Rehab department.
When did you start at MAHHC?
I started at MAHHC in 2014.
Why did you decide to become a nurse?
I became a nurse in 2012 after a long career in the hospitality industry. My decision to move to nursing was a gradual one. It was mostly a combination of some personal medical-related experiences, the desire to work with people, and I also felt it was a career with endless opportunities.
What interested you in your particular specialty?
The Rehab Nursing Specialty I feel "found me." I was lucky enough to join an excellent Rehab team, with a seasoned staff who mentored me through my initial onboarding and who I had an opportunity to observe and work alongside for many years.
What’s your favorite thing about being a nurse?
We have the privilege to help usher a patient and their family through a traumatic experience where many times bodily/cognitive function and control has been lost. We get to participate in their hard work, we get to encourage and educate, and best of all, we get to watch as they slowly get control and their NEW life back. This is the best part of being a Rehab Nurse.
What’s a moment from your career that sticks out to you?
There are many moments in my nursing career that stand out, mostly they are related to connections with patients and their families.
There are also those moments when you are in need of help, when a patient is not doing well. Knowing we have a team of nurses and supervisors with higher acuity knowledge, always willing and ready to support and step, in is very reassuring.
What’s something your colleagues don’t know about you?
I have never broken a bone.
As a child I joined the local church choir because I liked their t-shirts.
ABBA was and still is my favorite band!!!!
