State of Vermont Economic Services Division (ESD)

ESD provides benefits to help Vermonters meet basic needs, Apply for Emergency Assistance (family) or General Assistance (single person). It is possible, if you meet certain criteria, to be given a motel stay. If you are homeless and have no options, ask for a referral to the GA Pilot Transitional Housing Program.

Warming shelters

Warming shelters are available throughout our region in both Vermont and New Hampshire. Individuals and families in need of temporary shelter can also contact 211 to find a facility.

SEVCA Housing Assistance Program

The Southeastern Vermont Community Action (SEVCA) Housing Assistant Program provides family services and crisis intervention services, including:

  • Crisis resolution services for housing, fuel, clothing and food
  • Homelessness prevention
  • Housing stabilization
  • Food stamp outreach
  • Budget counseling
  • Information and referrals
  • Case management services

Housing Group / Springfield Supported Housing Program (SSHP)

Get a list of subsidized housing providers and call the property managers on the list below and ask for applications (request income-based housing). Get the private landlord list too.
